New to Reformer Pilates? Here’s What to Expect From Your First Class

Starting something new can feel daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. If you’re new to Reformer Pilates, your first session at Infinity Reformer is designed to feel welcoming, supportive and confidence-building from the moment you arrive.

Your class will be led by Lauren McAvoy, who will guide you through the fundamentals of the reformer, how the springs work and how to move safely and effectively. You’ll never be rushed, and there is no pressure to be perfect. The focus is on learning how the equipment supports your body and how to move with control and confidence.

A typical beginner session includes:

  • Gentle warm-up movements to mobilise the spine and joints

  • Foundational strength work for the core, legs and arms

  • Controlled, flowing sequences using the reformer’s resistance

  • A calming stretch and reset to finish

The reformer might look complex at first, but you’ll quickly discover how intuitive it feels once you begin moving. The bed and springs actually help guide your movement, offering both stability and support where needed.

What many people notice after their first session is how different their body feels. You may feel worked, but not exhausted. Strong, but not stiff. Energised, but also calm. This is one of the unique qualities of Reformer Pilates.

There is no expectation to “keep up” with anyone else in the room. Every movement can be adapted, progressed or simplified depending on how your body feels that day. This is what makes Reformer Pilates so sustainable, whether you train once a week or make it part of your regular routine.

If you’ve been curious about trying Reformer Pilates, your first class at Infinity Reformer is the perfect introduction.
